MALVERN TOWN drew 2-2 at home to Tavistock, despite looking the superior side.

Levi Francis had Malvern’s first opportunity of the game, as the midfielder flew past the Tavistock defender to set off a thunderous strike from outside the box. The shot flew over the bar.

Tavistock came very close to leading the game in the 27th minute. Luke Steer flicked the ball to Jacob Bowker who then spotted Liam Prynn in the centre of the box. The forward had an open goal in front of him, however, he was unable to convert the shot - raising the ball over the bar for an embarrassing miss.

After a scoreless stalemate in the first half, the next period created much more entertainment, with Malvern returning from the break with high energy.

The quick-fire start was rewarded as Charlie Johnson's long throw-in drifted across the Tavistock box and met Malvern’s in-form star, Sam Clark. Clark got his seventh of the season and put Stephen Cleal and Lee Hooper’s side in front.

The Lambs came back into it 12 minutes later, however. Ben Steer received the ball from a short corner and beat Alex Bell. Bell took the forward out from behind and the referee pointed to the spot. Prynn stepped up for the Devonshire side and tucked it away beautifully into the bottom right-hand corner to get the much-needed equaliser for Tavistock.

Tavistock maintained their momentum and took the lead moments later. Ben Steer cultivated a fantastic run on the left-hand side of the pitch, he then played the ball to Luke Steer who kept the ball in his sights as he ran through the Malvern defence. Steer put it away into the bottom right-hand corner to give Stuart Henderson’s side the lead.

Luck would finally come around for Malvern in the 75th minute. A long throw-in landed into the box, capturing Jack Watts. Watts' resulting shot hit the hand of a Tavistock defender giving Malvern a penalty. Watts stepped up and put it away with ease into the middle of the net. Taking the game into a tense deadlock for the last 15 minutes.

Both sides would exchange chances, but it was Malvern with the best opportunity. A low ball from Malvern rolled into the box and onto the feet of Watts who narrowly put it wide of the bottom left corner. Keeping the game all square.

The Hillsiders are in 12th position after the fixture. A trip down south next Saturday (November 23), sees them take on a struggling Falmouth Town side.
