TRIALIST Jedidiah Afenyo tapped home the winner on Tuesday night as Malvern Town beat Worcester City 2-1 at Claines Lane.

Afenyo, who also scored for The Hillsiders in the 2-0 win over Redditch United last week, is being trialled by the club through pre-season and he made another goal-scoring impact off the bench to hand Malvern the win. 

Matt Turner had capitalised on some scrappy defending by City in the 15th minute to thump the ball past Haydn Whitcombe in the City goal to give Malvern the lead. 

The visitors were the better side in the first-half but City improved after the break and captain Calvin Dinsley headed home from a corner ten minutes into the second half to put City back on level terms. 

A wealth of substitutions as the half wore on made for a stop-start affair and neither side really did enough to win the game but in the dying seconds, some good work down the left saw the ball cut back to Afenyo, who could not miss from a yard out to poke home the winner.

City came into the game on the back of two wins in which they had scored 10 goals and should have taken the lead in the opening minutes but former Malvern striker Kyonn Evans dragged a shot wide from 10 yards out. 

Malvern came back into it and looked a threat going forward and they took the lead when a poor defensive header from City's Josh Schuck found its way to Malvern's Turner, who let the ball drop before powering a strike past Whitcombe.

Turner should have had a second mid-way through the half when Joe Hunt, another player on trial at Malvern, produced a brilliant cross to the number nine, but his header drifted just wide from all of six yards. 

City had a lot of the ball but failed to make it count until 10 minutes into the second-half when a corner from the right found the head of Dinsley, who nodded into the net.

Chances were then few and far between for both sides, as numerous changes were made in typical pre-season style. 

The game was heading towards a fair draw but Malvern managed to pinch it as Afenyo was on hand to help the ball over the line.
