MALVERN Town's poor run of form continued as they were knocked out of the Worcestershire FA County Cup against local rivals Worcester Raiders.
Sam Whitton's goal in the second half at Sixways Stadium secured a 1-0 win for Raiders on Tuesday evening (October 8) in front of 280 fans.
In a quiet opening phase, Lewis Platt came closest to opening the scoring for Malvern after 17 minutes, with a whipped free-kick being caught by Charlie Emery.
Malvern had another chance minutes later, with Luke Payne's effort from
range going slightly wide.
Malvern's Lewis Spurrier then had a flurry of chances as the clock ticked towards half-time.
The first saw his shot saved after a good run in behind, and just seconds later his deflected effort was tipped over the bar by Emery.
After plenty of goalmouth action for Town at the end of the first half, things quietened down after the break.
The hosts managed to get their noses in front with around 15 minutes left.
Liam Banks managed to beat Malvern's offside trap before squaring it to Whitton, who tapped the ball in from close range.
Despite some late pressure from Town as they tried to get the equaliser, the Raiders held on for the win.
That defeat was Malvern's seventh in a row in all competitions.
They will hope to get back on track when they travel to Willand Rovers on Saturday, October 12.
