MALVERN teenager Callie Halliday has made a flying start to the second half of her canoe slalom season.

After the disappointment of dislocating her shoulder just a week before the Great Britain under 23s trials in May, she is now back on top form.

Halliday spent the summer recovering and getting back into training on the Munich Olympic course in Germany, the world-class venue in Prague and the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

Once given the all-clear to compete again, the 18-year-old travelled to Abbey Rapids in the north-east.

It was not a large white water venue so a good place to return from injury while the paddler hoped she had not lost too much form during her time out. But Halliday proved she was back to full fitness by gaining a first place at the event and valuable points towards the final rankings.

She went on to the annual national inter-clubs slalom in Cardington, Bedfordshire, and took second place in the C1 women’s event.

The trophies were presented by Etienne Stott, the Olympic gold medalist in the C2 slalom.

Halliday has been in Nottingham trying to earn a place at the 2013 GB selection race that will be held at the Olympic course next spring.

This was followed by the third leg of the home countries slalom representing England on the River Tryweryn in north Wales.
