MALVERN’S strongest team came away from Hagley with a 3½-2½ Worcestershire League Division One victory.
Brian Turner, John Knee and Peter Yeadon all drew their games while, on board two, Geoffrey Herbert was unfortunate to lose.
Ian Clarke gave up two pawns for a multitude of threats, eventually winning his opponent’s queen.
The match was clinched for Malvern when Tony Shaw developed an overwhelming attack on his opponent’s king.
