HANLEY Swan moved up to second in Cheltenham League Division Three with a comfortable 5-1 win at basement boys Charlton Rovers Reserves.
Playing up the slope with a strong wind in their faces in the first-half, Hanley found it difficult to score past a packed Rovers defence and an inspired home keeper.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 40th minute when excellent play between Ollie Lewis and Cathal McTernan saw the ball crossed for Matt Atkinson to score at the far post.
The visitors dominated the second period with McTernan firing home a second only for Rovers to pull a goal back against the run of play with a penalty for handball.
Minutes later, Hanley restored their two-goal lead through Andy Rogers before substitute James Beale hit a fourth.
Despite the efforts of the home keeper, Rogers added a fifth goal.
Hanley’s next game is at Lakeside in the Cheltenham Junior Charity Cup quarter-finals on Saturday (2pm).
