Bourton Rovers Reserves 1, Upton Town 6.
UPTON Town grabbed all three points with an impressive display against a spirited Bourton Rovers Reserves in Cheltenham League Division Three. The visitors started well and Kris Richardson opened the scoring on 10 minutes, tapping in at the corner with his less-favoured right foot.
But Upton were pinned back to 1-1 when several members of their side stopped expecting a handball to be given in the build-up to the equaliser.
Luke Kitchen restored Upton’s lead, turning two players on the half-way line before outpacing the last man, running 50 yards before tapping in.
It should have been 3-1 shortly after when Richardson outmuscled the Bourton centre-half before powering home.
But, after initially giving the goal, the referee changed his mind and it was subsequently disallowed.
Patrick Haynes saw the ball out for a goal-kick, however, the Bourton striker continued after the ball had gone out of play and the referee waved play on.
Upton produced a fine second-half display. They had some half-chances before Adam Spencer did grab a third for his side on 60 minutes, heading home a Kitchen corner.
Soon afterwards, the visitors grabbed a fourth. White was grappling with a Rovers centre-half in the area and this led to a penalty being awarded, which Richardson subsequently fired home.
Mark Watkins made it five when Kitchen pulled the ball back to him following a sweeping attack and the former chipped the ball over the keeper and into the far corner.
Kitchen scored Town’s sixth when Richardson pulled it back to him and he finished with a powerful strike.
Upton were unlucky not to score more, especially when Kitchen broke the offside trap and his chipped cross was just too high for Richardson, who could only direct his header onto the bar. Watkins reacted to rebound but his effort was tipped over.
