ON the eve of their new Worcester League season, Malvern Cricket Club captain Anthony Arnold has signalled a “new beginning” for his relegated side.
The Regency Road side finished bottom of Division One on 176 points last season.
Tomorrow they start life in Division Two with a home clash against Burghill and Tillington (1.30pm start).
After so far being unable to recruity any new players for the first team during the winter, Arnold says his side will be looking to blood some of the club’s youngsters during the forthcoming campaign.
He said: “Since being relegated several of the first team have moved to pastures new. This, however, has given a unique opportunity to current and future members to step up and be part of a new beginning for the club.
“I think gaining promotion this year is probably out of our reach but I would be happy with mid-table.
“To do this we will have to work hard as a team and club in all areas.
“We have unfortunately not gained any new players as yet, however, we will be bringing the youngsters through.
“Having said that, if there are any players including those from overseas we would be more than happy to invite them in club.
“Last season was a struggle for us, as team units we were unable to perform on a consistent basis, this is despite some impressive individual performances.”
Malvern will hold senior nets sessions every Wednesday night at the club throughout the season from 6.30pm.
