LEDBURY’S Isobel Wessels rode her own and Brigit Powell’s leggy 17.2 hands high gelding to two wins in the NAF Five Star Winter Championships at Hartpury Arena, Gloucestershire.
Wessels, who trains with Carl Hester, was delighted with the Contendro-sired eight-year-old Chagall.
The rider and international judge scored an impressive 76.61 per cent in the Elevator Medium Music Freestyle and 74.39 per cent in the British Horse Feeds Advanced Medium Open.
Bought as a four-year-old from Germany, Chagall took time to develop within his fine frame.
Wessels said: “Carl is keen to build him up and not push him. He can be a little bit flighty, but ultimately that will help with the Grand Prix work.
“He’s so easy off the aids that he never feels 17.2hh!”
The pair have 20 wins at medium and advanced medium level under their belt.
Wessels added: “I know in my heart he’s good enough to win. We are working towards a Prix St Georges in the summer and for now we will get him stronger. He has such a lovely talent.”
