DESPITE looking forward to the end of an ‘awful’ season, Malvern Town joint-manager Ray Pearce has targeted a maximum points haul from a ‘massive’ league double header.
The Langland Stadium side are rooted to the bottom of the Baker Joiner Midland Alliance on 14 points following successive defeats to Dunkirk (3-2) and Boldmere St Michaels (6-1).
Now Town look forward to two of their remaining three league games this Easter weekend, starting with a home date with Biddulph Victoria tomorrow. This will be followed by a six-pointer at second-from-bottom Willenhall Town on Monday (both ko 3pm).
Pearce concedes he is looking forward to the conclusion of his side’s ‘horrible’ campaign, but has called on his side to add to their three victories from 41 games so far.
Striker Lee Allen fired home Town’s consolation strike against Boldmere on Tuesday.
With just one win in their last 10 games, Malvern are currently six points behind Willenhall with a minus 110 goal difference.
But Pearce insists his side still have a mathematical chance of survival and has urged them to play without fear.
He said: “We’ve got nothing to lose, we've just got to go out there and enjoy ourselves.
“The season has been awful, horrible. The boys are desperate to beat both Biddulph and Willenhall.
“They are both similar sides to us.
“They are massive games this weekend. The last couple of games have summed up our season, we’ve been unlucky. But, defensively, I can’t knock the guys. We have players out of position.
“We’ve got to get through these last three games.
“We just want to get the season out of the way. The guys have given their all.
“The standard in this league has been remarkably high, it’s been a wake-up call for the players but they have done really well.
“We need to re-group and see what happens next season. The club will be looking at its complete infrastructure during pre-season.”
Malvern Town's remaining league fixtures: Tomorrow: Biddulph Victoria (h); 25: Willenhall Town (a); 30: Heath Hayes (h).
