MORE than 300 pupils from 18 local primary schools attended the annual Weston’s Visitor Centre schools’ tag rugby festival.
The event, run by over 40 volunteers and students from Ledbury RFC, Hereford Sixth Form College and the University of Worcester, is part of the Community Police Programme and RFU’s ‘Road to Twickenham’ national tournament.
A total of 32 teams completed pool matches and were then split into a cup and plate competition.
After closely-fought quarter and semi-final rounds, Ashperton and Bosbury Primary Schools competed in the cup final, with the former becoming the overall tournament winners.
Both Ashperton and Bosbury are now invited to attend the regional tournament held at Hindlip, the West Mercia headquarters.
In the plate competition, Madley overcame Ashfield Park.
Silverware and medals were awarded by Maureen Weston, of Weston’s Visitors Centre, who again were sponsors of the event held at Ledbury RFC’s Ross Road ground.
Event co-ordinator and Ledbury RFC coach, Bruce Allcock, said: “The standard of play was extremely high with many matches won by only one try.”
