DESPITE being buoyed by a first clean sheet in five games, Malvern Town joint-manager Ray Pearce has called on his goal-shy side to take their chances.
Town returned from Friar Lane and Epworth after a goalless draw with what could be a vital point towards their Baker Joiner Midland Alliance survival bid.
Pearce praised his back-four of Craig Selby, Ryan Keen, Martin Philpotts and James Blea for their efforts in the Leicestershire shut-out.
However, he has called on his side to produce more at the other end of the pitch, starting with the visit of Rocester to the Langland Stadium tomorrow (ko 3pm).
This will be followed up by a trip to fellow strugglers Biddulph Victoria on Tuesday (7.45pm). After missing last Saturday’s clash, forwards Dorian Colling and Lee Allen remain unavailable for tomorrow and will be replaced up-front by Damien Fearn and Ian Farney.
Despite their point, Town’s fight against relegation was dented as they returned to the foot of the table following Willenhall Town’s 3-2 victory over Studley.
This sees Malvern three points behind their Black Country rivals but with two games in hand.
Pearce said: “We need that cutting edge, we lack it at the minute.
“I’m still confident we can stay up. We’ve still got to play the teams around us.
“After our clean sheet, it’s gone from one extreme to the other after the number of goals we’ve let in lately. We’re turning the corner, we have a settled defence. We’ve just got to start putting our chances away.
“We didn’t do that against Friar Lane and Epworth. We’ve got to put the goalkeepers under pressure.
“We have to concentrate on ourselves and not worry about what the other teams do.
“We’ve still got to play Willenhall and we have two games in hand on them.
“But, first, we have a big game against Rocester tomorrow.”
Malvern Town's remaining league fixtures: Tomorrow: Rocester (home); 12: Biddulph Victoria (a); 16: Dunkirk (a); 19: Boldmere St Michaels (h); 23: Biddulph Victoria (h); 25: Willenhall Town (a); 30: Heath Hayes (h).
