Abberley 131 all out, West Malvern 135-5.
WEST’S skipper Kevin Gilbert won the toss and had no hesitation in putting the hosts into bat on a soft, green pitch.
Abberley made 131 from their allotted spell at the crease, which looked like a tough target.
A total of 132 for victory on a slow unpredictable pitch would be a stiff challenge for West Malvern but Glenn Collins chose to take the initiative. The score had reached 31 when the pitch had its reward, Collins caught by Grey off Stafford for 19.
A mix-up with Phil Chaundy accounted for Fred Walker who was run-out for a single and when Jeff Barnes and Craig Blincoe were dismissed soon after the Wests were reeling on 44-4. Chaundy was playing with great responsibility and control to keep the Wests score moving. His partnership with Elizabeth Dean (11) steadied the innings until she was caught by Taylor off Saunders.
Will Lloyd came to the crease with 62 still required and only 12 overs remaining, but he set about the task in his normal fearless manner which soon had Abberley skipper Saunders sending his fielders deeper. With fine running and clean striking, Will Lloyd and Chaundy sent the scoring rate soaring and reached the target with four overs to spare.
Chaundy finished on an excellent 58 and Lloyd’s 26 was a fine effort, their partnership of 65 coming off eight overs.
