Bosbury 270-3, Llandrindod Wells 70-2 (Match abandoned).
THE rain proved an opponent that could not be beaten as Bosbury’s Marches League Division Two clash with Llandrindod Wells was abandoned after the hosts had scored 270-3.
Thanks to the efforts of the Bosbury ground-staff, the game got under way only 30 minutes late with the match reduced to 40 overs per side.
Visiting captain Martin Hurst won the toss and put Bosbury in to bat, hoping to make quick inroads in the damp conditions. However, the pitch played well and Bosbury openers Simon Probyn and Dave Spiller got off to a reasonable start.
They had scored 23 when Spiller gave a return catch to Hurst for 14. Brian Miller, returning at number three for Bosbury, began well, striking some confident boundaries, scoring 28 and putting on 48 with Probyn before he skied one to Price off the bowling of Crewe, bringing Chris Stokes to the wicket. Stokes began his innings carefully once again, as Probyn began to accelerate after the drinks break and the pair brought up a 50 partnership. Probyn had reached 48 before he was run out attempting a second run with the score now 129-3. Luke Ledbury joined Stokes with 12 of the 40 overs remaining, and they began to attack the young Llandrindod bowlers aggressively, with both batsman bringing up their fifties.
Stokes finished on 80 not out from 63 balls with eight fours and three sixes.
Ledbury ended up on 73no from 45 balls, with seven fours and four sixes, to take Bosbury to 270-3 after 40 overs.
A brief shower over tea might have livened up the wicket, but the Llandrindod Wells team began their reply under darkening skies, and they lost their first wicket, that of J Jones bowled by Steve Davies for three, with the score on eight. Davies struck again next ball, bowling S James for a golden duck, but S Fuller joined opener R Edwards and the pair defiantly put on 62 runs before the heavy rain finally came in the 19th over.
The showers disappointingly put an end to the day’s proceedings as the game was abandoned with Edwards on 26no, and Fuller on 37no from 34 balls.
Bosbury’s next game is a derby away at Ledbury tomorrow.
