Worcester Nomads 53-1, v Bromyard (Match abandoned after 13 overs).
WORCESTER Nomads Saturday first team entertained Pershore in their Division One Worcestershire Crusader County League Division One clash.
Nomads lost the toss and were asked to bat. Skipper Dannie Rees (29) and James Watkins (20no) put together a first-wicket stand of 56 before Rees gave a return catch to Bromyard bowler Taylor.
The heavens then opened and the match was abandoned with just 13 overs bowled.
Nomads Seconds entertained Belbroughton at Bransford in Division One (Second XI).
After losing the toss and being asked to bat, the Nomads openers of Davies and Oliver struggled to score freely against the swing of Willets and the accuracy of J Raybould.
Davies eventually fell for 23, with the score on 73 off 26 overs, while Oliver (62) continued to battle away at the other end.
Jenkins (18) showed some fine shots before being bowled by Raybould.
It was then left to the tail of Dixon (22), Marsh (16) and Inglis (15no) to push the innings along to reach a final total of 198-8 from the allotted 46 overs.
In reply, the experienced Kings and Knights got off to a flier. Jenkins bowled tightly along with Tom Marsh to keep the pressure on and wickets started to fall.
Two excellent catches by Inglis removed Knights (14) and Kings (22) off the bowling of Jenkins.
Marsh claimed the third wicket and Nomads were on top.
But then the rain came down in the 17th over to leave Belbroughton on 70-3 with no more play possible.
Nomads Thirds left a very wet Enville with a sense of frustration having dominated a fixture from which they emerged with fewer points than their opponents. Having won the toss and inserted their hosts, Nomads soon were on top, with Paul Waugh taking a wicket in his first over, and the pressure mounted from that point onwards. Enville never looked comfortable in trying to score runs during the innings, and without a time at the crease from 14-year-old Tom Bingham, unbeaten at the end of 45 overs on 93, would have been in great difficulties.
The rain intervened, but under new league rules Enville batted their full allocation of 45 overs, leaving Nomads to chase 163 for victory from just 39 overs.
The Nomads innings was always on target for the four- per-over required to enable them to reach that target, and be well ahead of the winning draw requirements. Bland (21) and Pearson (18) put on 43 for the opening stand and then Dan Taylor (26) put them within one run of the winning draw target, with 22 overs completed. At that point, and with three overs still needing to be bowled to constitute a game, the heavens opened. Both sides had to settle for five points for the abandoned fixture, and Enville added three bonus points.
