Redditch 135 all out, Colwall 136-7.

COLWALL continued their good start to the Crusader Worcestershire Division One season with a three-wicket win at Redditch.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first.

The overcast conditions suited the bowling of Colwall’s Damien Berry as he removed both openers and the home team were reduced to 36-2 off their first 12 overs.

The rest of the Redditch batting didn’t fare any better and had no answer to the Colwall spin duo of Michael King and Charles Griffiths.

Redditch slumped from 81-3 to 135 all out. King returned figures of 5-33, Griffiths 3-23 and there were four catches and a stumping for wicketkeeper Ben Wheeler. In reply, Colwall were soon in trouble at 38-3.

Nick Panniers and Odge Davey steadied the ship, but, when the former was out for 19 with the score on 56, the visitors collapsed spectacularly with three wickets in four balls for Daniel Friedrich.

The left-arm slow bowler removed Peter Butler first ball and skipper King send ball.

Colwall recovered to 90-7 with Davey and Griffiths batting with grit and determination. The pair batted for 12 overs and scored the remaining 46 runs to win the game. Davey finished on 45no and Griffiths 28no.

Colwall entertain neighbours Barnards Green tomorrow at Stowe Lane (1.30pm start).
