LEDBURY and District Swimming Club were back in action with a trip to Chelsyn Hay for the second round of the Nuneaton Junior league. With the hope of continuing their successful start to the league, the Ledbury swimmers managed to chalk up 17 top three places in the first 20 events.
In the opening individual events the Ledbury swimmers swam amazingly to achieve five personal best times, among these Danielle Fitzgerald gained a well deserved second place in the 12/u girls’ 50m butterfly gaining over a one-second pb. Oscar van Vuren also swam a superb 50m freestyle gaining almost a two-second pb. Dan Clark, Harry Harris, Rhodri Whittaker and Morgan Crosshoare all swam amazingly to take the boy’s 11/u freestyle relay. Not to be out-done the 10-year girls medley relay team fought all the way to take first place, helping the team to an eleven-point lead after 26 events.
Determined not to let this lead slip, the Ledbury swimmers managed to achieve another 17 top three places in the next 20 events, with over 13 new personal best times recorded.
Penny Green and Clark both had exceptional swims in the 10 years’ 50m butterfly to gain pb’s, with Clark also gaining a pb in his 50m breaststroke. After 39 events Ledbury had managed to increase their lead over the closest competition, Enderby, by 24 points.
The final race of the day was the much anticipated eight by 25m mixed freestyle relay, that saw Ledbury fighting to the finish to gain first place. The final scores were: Ledbury 234, Enderby 203, Gloucester City 178, Brierley Hill 173, Dove Valley 145.
