THE season has started with a bang for a couple of veteran riders from VC Sevale.
Mike Amery started the time-trial series with a blistering 12 minutes 13 seconds on the 5.5-mile Hanley Swan circuit, a new club record.
The other notable rider so far this season is 69-year-old Bill Douglas.
He is challenging Steve Price for the fixed wheel trophy and currently has bagged more points.
Douglas took part in the Warwickshire Road Club open 10-mile time trial and won the handicap in a time of 27.12. Club events to look forward to in the next few weeks are the usual Thursday evening time trials, open to anyone. Membership is required but can be easily arranged on night.
The veteran’s road race will be held on May 30 and some club members will be present at the Malvern Fringe Elgar Bicycle Challenge, a hill climb up Church Street.
There are club rides every Sunday morning from Barnards Green bus shelter at 9 am, with a distance of around 65 miles approximately.
