LEDBURY Town manager Ben Symons has targeted a top five finish next season after his side ended their current campaign with a disappointing 6-1 home defeat to Ellesmere Rangers.

Town completed their West Midlands (Regional) Premier Division programme with a poor defeat with their only goal of the game coming via an own goal by the visiting goalkeeper following an Isaac Shaze corner.

But Symons insists his team will have a new outlook next season as he looks for a radical improvement after a season of struggle that saw them finish second-from-bottom in the table. The New Street club boss revealed he will do some major surgery on his small squad during the summer and already has “three or four” players lined up to join.

Symons said: “It would be nice to get a top five finish next year.

“I want us to pay a lot of attention to our away form next season, our home form wasn’t too bad this year but it could have been better too.

“I’ve already lined up three or four players and we will bring them to pre-season.

“There are some good players here at the moment that we will aim to keep hold of but we need some more players to back up our squad. It was so small during this season that if we had a couple of injuries we would struggle.

“Overall I’m happy with how my 12 league games in charge at the end of the season went, we scored lots of goals and we are going to get better.

“We will be a very, very good team next year. Things are looking very promising for us.

“On Saturday we had a few players missing and quite a few people switched off.

“Ellesmere were a good quality side but it was a shame to lose with such a scoreline at home and end the year on a bad note.”
