MALVERN Town manager Joe Rawle has said he has no intention of quitting his post after his side wrapped up their British Gas Business Division One Midlands season with a home draw.

The Langland Stadium side completed their league fixtures with a 1-1 draw with Bury Town last Saturday as they now face up to life in the Midland Alliance following relegation.

But Rawle believes his side can bounce back after a woeful season that saw them pick up just 16 points from 42 games and finish with a minus 92 goal difference. Dane Aldington scored Malvern’s last goal of the league campaign when he headed home in the 78th minute.

Goalkeeper Craig Humphries made a string of saves to deny the visitors as he provided a stubborn last line of the Malvern defence.

Malvern were scheduled to face Stourport Swifts last night in the semi-final of the Worcestershire Infirmary Cup as they bid to end their season on a trophy-winning high.

He said: “I’m determined not to quit the club, I never wanted to at any point in the season, it would have been the easy thing to do.

“I’m glad to see the back of the season, I’ve not had one like it before.

“But we did have a good result in our last game against Bury, we deserved the point even though they were the better football side on the day.

“We battled away to get a result and we also denied Bury a play-off place by getting a draw.

“I have to take my hat of to the lads who have been committed to the club and played every week for us in what has been a difficult season.

“Now we go back into the Midland Alliance and we need to push for promotion and learn from what we have done in the last three seasons in the Southern League and be better equipped for when we go up again.”
