LEDBURY and District swimming club returned from Newport with the Wyvern League Shield.
The Ledbury team went into the final as favourites to win, but had a point to make as in the previous round they had finished second in the final event, the 10x25-metre cannon.
Millie Park and Issy Heath stepped up an age group to help secure victory in the 11/u freestyle relay.
Out of 32 individual events, Ledbury swimmers produced 11 personal bests, including Heath in the 10 years backstroke, Ellie Ainsworth in the nine years freestyle and William Park in the 11/u backstroke.
Ledbury dominated the freestyle relays with wins in five of the eight events to give them a 22-point lead over Torfaen after 28 events.
Caitlin Adair and Mitchell Willson recorded new PBs in the 10-year breaststroke.
George Bennion gave a captain’s performance with a new personal best in the 15/u 50m butterfly.
Alice Price and Daniel Adair achieved PBs in the 13/u 50m freestyle, as did Alex Midd-leton in the 11/u butterfly.
Ben Lavin also gained a new best in the 13/u breaststroke, helping the team to a 53-point lead after 45 events.
In the medley relays, the 11/u girls came from behind to claim victory, as did the team in the 10-person mixed cannon relay.
Final scores: Ledbury 286 points, Torfaen 233, Pontypool 225, Ross-on-Wye 153 and Monnow 146.
Ledbury swimmers took part in the Derventio Excel open meet in Sheffield where they got the opportunity to compete in a 50m pool and also allowed competitors chance to gain district qualifying times.
Michael Adair had an excellent start to the weekend managing to gain three district qualifying times, three top six places and an impressive personal best in his 100m freestyle. Brother Daniel was not to be outdone and gained a district time in his 200m indiv-idual medley.
Aidan Berry also made his mark on the competition finishing all three of his morning swims in the top six and he gained the district time in the 200m IM and three PBs.
Thomas Stokes also had a good swim in the 200m IM but missed the national qualifying time by one hundredth of a second.
Lucy Stokes recorded a PB in the 200m butterfly.
The Berry and Adair brothers achieved further district qualifying times in the second session of the first day.
Mitchell Willson also put in an excellent swim in the 10 years age group 100m breaststroke, taking third place.
The girls added to this when Sally Fitzpatrick gained the district time in the 200m breaststroke, while Laura Quigley took third in the 11 years 50m freestyle.
Team-mates Leah Heath and Alice Price both managed to impress in the 50m freestyle with new PBs.
Eloise van Vuren had her first swim of the weekend in the same event and managed to gain a personal best time of 29.05 — half a second off the national qualifying time.
Quigley swam an amazing race in the 100m freestyle and managed to gain the district time, while van Vuren also swam well to gain her first PB in this event in a year.
Thomas Stokes finished third in the 16 years 400m IM, while Berry smashed his PB in the boys 200m butterfly, coming home in 3.02.22, 16 seconds faster than his previous best.
Willson went on to swim a remarkable 200m breaststroke, gaining a third in the 10-year boys with a district qualifying time.
In the same event, Thomas Stokes put in a strong swim to take fifth in 16-year boys.
Fitzpatrick recorded a PB in the 100m breaststroke.
