MALVERN Town has advanced to the next round of the FA Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 win over local rivals Hereford Pegasus.

A brace from Harry Clark saw Town triumph in the FA Cup's extra preliminary round.

Town secured their first chance of the game from a counter attack.

Debutant goalkeeper Lewis Adams swept up a pass in behind and sent a huge clearance into the Pegasus half, which was misjudged by the river, who chested the ball out to Harry Clark whose first-time volley squirmed just wide.

Shortly after, Jack Watts was played in on the left-hand side by Levi Francis, who cut in only to see his effort deflected over the bar.

Town finally took the lead after Joe Tumelty received the ball in central midfield, turned away from his marker and then slid the ball into the path of Clark, who cut in on his right-foot and fired into the bottom corner via a deflection.

Just moments later Town doubled their lead, with their high press winning the ball back in midfield before playing in Clark out wide, who beat his full-back on the outside and rifled a shot into the top corner from a near-impossible angle.

After the break, Pegasus piled on the pressure as they tried to get back into the game.

And eight minutes into the second half they got their reward, with a long free kick into the box evading everybody except Lewis Fletcher, who headed into the bottom corner unmarked six yards out.

Buoyed by their route back into the game, Pegasus turned up the pressure without ever seriously testing Adams in the Town goal.

But as the clock ticked down, it was Malvern that looked the more likely to score with some excellent counter attacks coming close to putting the game beyond Pegasus.

Town managed to hold on for the win and will now play AFC Hinkley away from home on August 17.

Next up for Malvern is their first league game of the season, which is again away from home, this time at Shaftesbury.
