MALVERN Mavericks have won back-to-back games in the Gloucestershire Basketball League to remain on course for a title bid in 2024.
Malvern, who play their home fixtures at MSJ Sports Hall, hosted Gloucester Kings in their first match of the Post-Christmas League on Friday (February 16) and it was a back-and-forth encounter that the hosts were able to win, but not by much.
The scores were close throughout and there were numerous lead changes as the game headed towards the closing stages, where Malvern were able to pull away and win the game 89-84.
The win was made that bit more impressive given that Kings had not been beaten at all this season in either the Pre-Christmas or Post-Christmas League and won this fixture in the Pre-Christmas League by almost 20 points. But it was Malvern won won to push their own claims for glory this year.
The Mavericks were back in action on Tuesday night with a trip to Hartpury College to face Gloucester Old Spots in another league encounter.
And this was a far more comfortable evening for the Mavericks as they produced a blow-out performance to win by 40 points in an 85-45 victory.
Mavericks remain in second in the Division One table, but have played a game less than current leaders Kings in the Division One.
This weekend they host Leadonites at the MSJ Sports Hall, a side who have lost both of their games so far this year, so the expectation will be that Malvern maintain their unbeaten start to the Post-Christmas campaign.
