MANOR Park were able to celebrate two trophies at the 2024 Worcestershire Squash County Closed Championship in Stourbridge last month.
Jez Clarke won the Men's B title after a brilliant tournament - dropping just one game - whilst Phil Perchard won the Men's over 50s title following an all-Manor Park final with Phil Bayley.
Clarke went through the rounds of the Men’s B fairly unscathed; beating Rob Garvin from Barnt Green 3-0, teammate Becky Dovey 3-0 and Katie Simpson from Hereford 3-1.
This set up a Sunday final with higher-ranked Nick Ridley from Nunnery Wood. But Clarke maintained his good form and managed to return another 3-0 victory, winning the trophy in style for the first time.
After exiting the Men’s B competition, Bayley and Perchard concentrated on pursuing the men’s Over 50s title and they went all the way to set up a 'Manor Park Derby' showdown.
Bayley started strongest, winning the first in a best-of-five final but this only seemed to spark Perchard into life, who won the next three games to complete a 3-1 victory to secure the over 50s title.
Elsewhere, Dovey was also in action in the Women's A tournament, where she breezed through the early rounds to reach the Final of the Women’s A. She started the strongest to go 2-0 up against a formidable opponent in the form of Hereford's Katie Simpson from Whitecross.
Unfortunately for Dovey, her opponent grew into the match and ended up pipping the title in a very tight decider.
