AT the annual general meeting of thesoccersite.co.uk Malvern Football League, secretary Joe Whitehouse reported on the completion of another successful season for the league.
The season had begun on September 3 and ended 256 days later on May 17. There had been a total of 180 league games plus 22 cup games played with 1293 goals being scored at an average of 6.4 goals per game.
Highlights of the season were outlined with Bell Inn 98 only losing their unbeaten record in the last game of the season as they won the title with Oak Allstars, their conquerors, finishing runners-up for the 4th consecutive season.
However, Oak Allstars did the League proud when they became the second Malvern League side in four years to win the Herefordshire FA Sunday Cup when they beat Hereford Premier League side Re-Rack Rovers on penalties.
Oak Allstars were also successful in the final of the Norman Simmons Senior Cup when they beat Dynamo Ledbury 2-1 in a hard fought final.
The final of the President's Cup also saw a very close game as Cross Keys finally overcame Lionel's Lions 3-1 in front of the largest crowd to attend a final for many years.
Morgan Aero 8 were to be congratulated again as for the second year running they only lost in extra time in the quarter-final of the Worcestershire FA Sunday Minor Cup.
Recent winners of the team of the month were presented with match balls donated by the league sponsors The Soccer Site. They were: February - Lionel's Lions; March - Bell Inn 98; April - Oak Allstars; May - Fir Tree.
The Fair Play Trophy went to Fir Tree FC for the second consecutive year.
The manager of the year trophy, which was voted for by the clubs, went to Leigh Phillips of Cross Keys FC.
The leading goalscorer for the season (league and internal cups) was Lee Hooper of Bell Inn 98 with 60 goals, runner-up was Graham Jones of Express 06 with 43 goals and in third place was David Lawrence of Morgan Aero 8 with 41 goals.
Next season starts on September 2 and whilst there were several clubs interested in joining the league, it was decided to limit the number of teams accepted in league to ensure that not only could all games be played in the timescale but also taking into consideration the national shortage of referees.
Finally the secretary was pleased to announce that The Soccer Site would continue to sponsor the League which would therefore continue to be known as thesoccersite.co.uk Malvern Football League.
