THREE Manor Park junior tennis players were proud to represent Herefordshire and Worcestershire in the prestigious County Cup U14 tournament last weekend.
Competition for selection was very keen and four girls with equal rating were asked to play in a box league. Manor Park's Katherine Panton-Kent earned her team place by winning all three of her play-off matches.
The U14 girls, captained by Manor Park's coach Stephen Bauer, played at Billesley, Warwickshire, where they defeated Cumbria by five games, Berkshire 6-0 and South of Scotland 5-1. Katherine Panton-Kent won her matches and was delighted to be part of the winning team.
Herefordshire and Worcester-shire girls will now be promoted to Division Five for next year's tournament.
Herefordshire and Worcester-shire U14s boys are already in Division Five A and played at Cheltenham last weekend.
Manor Park's David Hodgetts played at number one and won two of his three singles matches. Club mate Jamie Marks, played at number two and won one of his singles matches against higher-rated players. David and Jamie, playing together, also won a doubles match for their team.
Herefordshire and Worcester-shire boys beat Gloucestershire 5-1 and also played well against Wiltshire and Northamptonshire. By finishing third they remain in Division Five A for next year.
The boys hope to be promoted next year.
