A SMALL number of Arden Sailing Club (Defford) members braved the strong (20-25mph) easterly winds on Sunday.
The first race was Pursuit Two, there was an uncharacteristically slow start from Niall Campbell and Jane Smee (Enterprise) with Jeremy and Michelle Griffiths (Enterprise) hitting the line on the gun.
Niall and Jane chased hard but the leading boat held on to a 50 yards lead at the finish.
Full results: First Jeremy & Michelle Griffiths, second Niall Campbell and Jane Smee, third Alan Salerman and Ray Trace with fourth Keith Stevens (Solo).
The second race of the day was to Strensham being the third in this series.
Condition were by this time even gustier than earlier in the day again seeing four boats jostling for position on the line.
Jeremy was over the line on the gun and crossed the fleet whilst trying to get back to the pre course side in order to start forcing Niall and Jane to stop. The other two boats got a way clean with Jeremy clearing the line and setting off in pursuit.
Niall was now stuck head to wind, while extricating himself from irons and being somewhat unsettled by the encounter he and his crew fell victim to a vicious little gust just at the wrong moment and having joined the early bath' club they retired.
The remaining three boats completed the run down to Strensham weir without further incident. The veteran pairing of Salerman and Trace maintaining a close shadow of the Griffiths team.
The final result being a win for Jeremy and Michelle Griffiths, second Alan Salerman and Ray Trace, with Keith Stevens third.
