AFTER course closures due to the recent wet weather had curtailed The Worcestershire Club ladies’ section winter league, conditions improved sufficiently for the latest round of the competition to take place.
With trolleys and buggies banned because of the still difficult playing conditions at the Malvern Wells-based course, two players produced superb stableford scores.
Seven-handicapper Cathy Harris, who had produced an excellent 38 points in her opening round, followed up with another fine display.
This time, Harris amassed 39 points to pip Jen Bishop, who plays off 14, on countback after she had also totalled 39 points. Alison Tuck (16) came third with 31 points.
In the club’s men’s section, all of the available startingtimes were filled for the third round of the winter betterball stableford, which was played in fine weather on Saturday.
First place was taken by two experienced senior members, Ralph Kelsall (nine) and Andrew Dare (19), with a fine score of 44 points.
On the same score in second place were two relatively new members, Mike Hanna (15) and Richard Sebok (12), who go forward with the winners to the match-play stage next year.
Just edged into third place with 43 points were the consistent Andy McCabe (6) and Paul Wakely (11), whose next chance to qualify will be in round four, set for January 5, weather permitting.
