YOUNGSTERS cared for by a children’s hospice will receive a unique part of the Olympic legacy in the shape of a statue of the event’s mascot.
The ‘Wenlock’ statue is one of 84 nationally created for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and bought by a Malvern businessman, who enlisted the help of the Malvern Gazette in searching for a permanent home.
The owner has now plumped for the Acorns Children’s Hospice in Worcester, and the twometre statue will be travelling to its new home in the next few weeks.
The purchaser, who has asked to remain anonymous, said: “My key concern was looking for somewhere for the statue that children would be able to appreciate it, and Acorns is absolutely the right place in that regard.
“I’ve been to the hospice and the children there have taken a very keen interest in the games.
“They have already found a lovely home for it in the garden and hopefully it can bring a lot of joy to them.”
Malvern firm AVD Wealth has agreed to sponsor its delivery and Acorns is planning an official unveiling.
