THE halls of Malvern College’s music school have rung even more splendidly than usual this week as the College hosts the National Schools Symphony Orchestra, one of the country’s leading youth orchestras.
Founded in 1995 as a stepping stone for those wishing to begin the journey from county youth orchestra or leading school orchestra to the hallowed ranks of the National Youth Orchestra and eventually the professional scene, NSSO brings together 70 of the United Kingdom’s most outstanding young musicians for a week of intense rehearsal before the orchestra gives two concerts including, this year, a concert at the Malvern Theatres (Sunday 3.15pm – for tickets visit the Malvern Theatres Box Office).
“The course offers our students a unique perspective on the reality of a career in music,” said course director, David Evans. “Each section is coached by a leading orchestral professional and, what is more, the orchestra benefits from internationally acclaimed conductors who offer something completely different from what the students will be used to at school.”
