A PUBLIC meeting about the future of Malvern Youth Centre is being held later this month.
The meeting has been organised by Worcestershire county councillor Penelope Morgan, who wants all those interested in the centre's future to go along and make their views known.
The future of the centre, in Albert Road North, is uncertain because of plans to expand the neighbouring campus of South Worcestershire College, formerly Malvern Hills College, and because of county council spending cuts.
Going to the meeting, on Wednesday, May 18, will be coun Liz Eyre, the county council's cabinet member for children's services.
Coun Morgan said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for local people to come and hear what coun Eyre has to say, and for her to listen to the views of local people on what sort of youth service people want.
"Democracy means that councillors should listen to what people say and act upon it. I know the county council has to save money, but I don't believe the youth service should be decimated in the way it is, cut by 50 per cent."
She says all those who want to speak out about the issie will be welcome at the meeting, including the Malvern Community Collective, who are putting together a bid to run the centre independent of the county council.
The meeting is at the youth centre, and starts at 7.30pm.
