RESIDENTS of Gilbert Road in Malvern had a right royal time on Friday as they celebrated the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
People living in the cul-de-sac off Barnards Green Road got up early, moved all their cars off or out of the road, swept the street until was in tip-top condition and then made it festive with bunting, before settling down in front of their TVs for the day's grand event.
And when the happy couple at Westminster Abbey were finally spliced, tables in the middle of the road were laden with a succulent selection of food and the party began.
The man behind the whole show was Paul Hern, and he was delighted with how the afternoon went. He said: "We've got over 100 people here, maybe 110, the sun is finally coming out, and everyone is really enjoying themselves. The ice-cream man his stopped by, there are games for the kids and everything is great.
"We all watched the wedding, and what struck me was the simplicity of the ceremony as well as its grandeur."
Among the guests were Jonathan and Harmony Greenwood, who said they really enjoyed the wedding. "It was really nicely done, with a great choice of music," said Mr Greenwood.
"She looked beautiful," said Mrs Greenwood, "and when they said the vows, you could tell by the way they looked at each other that it was for real."
