A stage adatation of Flora Thompson’s famous book Lark Rise to Candleford is coming to Welland next month.
The adaptation is by the rural touring theatre company New Perspectives and will be performed at St James’ Church on Saturday, May 7.
Lark Rise to Candleford is a nostalgic look at rural life in late 19th century England and features drama, storytelling and live folk music along with a cast of unforgettable.characters.
It follows the story of Laura Timms who sets out from the tiny village of Lark Rise to start a new life in the nearby market town of Candleford where she is torn between her love of the countryside and the lure of the town, the traditions of the past and the promise of the future.
The show is directed by Daniel Buckroyd whose recent credits include Farm Boy by Michael Morpurgo at the Edinburgh Festival and on national tour.
Ruth Westley, who plays Laura, has appeared in Far From the Madding Crowd with English Touring Theatre and appeared in Emmerdale.
“With a huge appeal to rural audiences and with a story popularised by the BBC TV series this idyllic and heart warming story has wide appeal,” said David Richardson, who is involved with bringing arts and music events to the church.
The performance is at 7pm and tickets cost £8 for adults or £20 for a family ticket. They are available from Welland and Hanley Swan post offices or from David Richardson on 01684 592088. Interval refreshments will be available. For more information about New Perspectives go to newperspectives.co.uk.
