ABBA songs will be the name of the game when a hit film comes to Worcester’s cricket ground.
Dancing queens hope to be knocked for six at New Road on Friday, August 26, when musical Mamma Mia! is shown outside in the sunshine.
For the third year in a row, film lovers can enjoy a film as they picnic in the grounds of Worcestershire’s cricket club.
And this year, it is hoped people will really get in the spirit and come dressed up in their 70s gear ready to sing along to the famous hits which make up the musical’s soundtrack.
To help the audience get in the mood, Wyvern radio breakfast presenter Hursty will hold a 70s-themed disco before the film.
Mamma Mia! – the third highest grossing musical of all time – stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth and is set on an idyllic island in Greece.
Organiser Jodi Brandwood said: “We chose Mamma Mia! because a lot of people had requested it. I hope people sing along – most know the songs and even people who aren’t Abba fans can’t help but join in when they hear them.
“Last year’s showing of Dirty Dancing was successful – we had 1,500 people – but hopefully this year will be even more so, especially if the weather holds out and because more people know about it now.
“It will be great fun for lots of different people – from families to hen parties – so I hope that lots of people come along.”
And, no doubt, they will all be saying thank you for the music afterwards.
