CONCERNED parents and villagers are being urged to write to the county council to help keep a threatened school open beyond August.

The Friends of Longdon St Mary’s Primary School working party is calling on all people who took part in Worcestershire County Council’s consultation on the school’s future to send any comments or objections to the council by Friday, May 6.

Since their formation the Friends have been working hard to generate interest in the school, via the use of large advertising banners on the B4211, leaflet drops, a stand at CountryTastic, gathering support from Olympian Zac Purchase and West Worcestershire MP Harriet Baldwin, as well as having a stand at Upton’s Royal wedding celebrations today (April 29).

Dianna Scott, of the working party, said: “The Friends’ working party are hoping that the massive marketing campaign and renewed interest in Longdon school from local parents for September enrolment and an encouraging forecast for the next four years reception intake will help to persuade the county councillors to rethink their decision and allow Longdon St. Mary's Primary School to remain open.”

Parents of prospective pupils are also being encouraged to write to the school’s acting headteacher, Julie Wills, and Harriett Baldwin outlining their support.
