UPTON in Bloom will be replacing its floral boat at the Marina on Wednesday (April 27) as the group continues preparations for this summers Heart of England and Britain in Bloom competitions.
“The boat has done sterling service, but has come to the end of its days and is collapsing,” said chairman Jackie Surtees. “A replacement has been found at Hill End, Upton upon Severn and Morrison Construction, the flood defence contractors, have offered to pick it up and bring it to the Marina.
“Colin Smith will be carrying out some 'surgery' on it, the plants and compost from the old boat will be removed, the boat moved and the new one put in its place then filled up and planted.”
This is the second time Upton in Bloom have had to empty a boat this year. A few weeks ago one at the end of the Old Road was emptied and moved at the request of highways officers in anticipation of work to raise the A4104 as part of the flood defences.
Any volunteers who would like to help with the work are welcome to attend at 2pm on Wednesday.
