A MALVERN woman is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for charity just months after her husband died of cancer.
Caroline Sutton, from Hanley Swan, has formed a family team to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice after losing her husband Alan to cancer in February.
“Team Sutton” will be taking part in the Malvern Hills Walk on Saturday, May 21, and the Worcestershire Way Walk on Friday, June 24.
Mrs Sutton, who has been training five days a week with friends, said: “Our very supportive friends and family will be joining me, as well as our son Andrew and daughter Lizzie. It is especially poignant because Alan and I walked the Worcestershire Way for the hospice three years ago before he became ill. I don’t want him to have died in vain and there is no more fitting way to celebrate Alan’s life than doing something that involves fitness.”
She added: “St Richard’s were a wonderful support to us and we managed to nurse Alan at home until he died. There was always someone available to talk to or call upon from the hospice. He went there for two blood transfusions and each time we were met with friendly, professional and compassionate people. The money raised will go straight to the hospice, which does such fantastic work.”
The couple owned Hanley Swan Post Office until eight years ago and more than 460 family and friends attended his funeral at the village church.
