THE world premiere of a new young people’s musical is taking place in Great Malvern Priory on Wednesday (April 20).

Moses and the Flight from Pharaoh has been written and composed by local professional musicians Jonathan Darnborough and Claire-Louise Lucas.

It will be brought to life through a free full-day workshop led by the composers in the Priory, culminating in a public performance of the work at 6pm.

Sarah Guy, who is organising the event on behalf of YOMP (Youth of Malvern Priory), said: “The musical is a combination of the classical mystery play and the modern musical.

“It tells the story of how Moses led the Israelites to freedom from the Egyptians, starting with his concealment in the bulrushes which saved his infant life, the burning bush, through many plagues including frogs, locusts and snakes to the famous parting of the River Nile leading to a great victory song. Children and young people from across Malvern in school years four to nine will be performing the musical and entrance is free to any who wish to attend.”
