A MAJOR new development of flats for older people in Malvern Link is set to go before planners next week.
Festival Housing is applying for permission to knock down the existing development at Alexander Gardens and Brookside, off Worcester Road.
In its place, the housing association wants to build an "affordable mixed-tenure independent living scheme of 101 units for residents aged 55 years and over.”
As well as apartments for residents, the scheme will contain communal facilities such as a lounge/restaurant, library, gym, and function room.
Malvern Civic Society has objected to the plan, saying the proposal is too large for the site and too close to neighbouring properties. It also says the access is unsuitable and car parking inadequate.
The scheme comes up before Malvern Hills District Council's southern area development control committee on Wednesday, April 20.
It is being recommended for delegated approval, subject to a section 106 legal agreement about provision of recycling facilities.
