MALVERN resident Vince Wanklin raised more than £900 for Macmillan Cancer Support by asking for donations instead of presents when he celebrated his 60th birthday.
Mr Wanklin, who works for Morgan Motor Company, has been a committed supporter of Macmillan for a number of years especially since losing his lifelong partner Dot three years ago.
“I thought a party would be a good opportunity to thank my family, friends and colleagues at Morgan for their support during what was a difficult time,” he said. “Instead of receiving gifts I decided to raise funds for Macmillan that can be passed on to support people affected by cancer when they need it most.”
Mr Wanklin said he wanted to thank local groups the Sarah Warren Band and the Fabulous Boogie Boys, who performed at the party, which was held in the Gryphon Room at Malvern College.
Any other residents with a special occasion on the horizon who would like to follow Mr Wanklin’s lead and raise donations can contact the local fund-raising office on 01527 579575 or email worcestershire@macmillan.org.uk.
