A TEN-week healthy living lifestyle programme called Fit 4 Life has been hailed a big success in helping young Malvern mums feel healthier and ready to take on training and employment, say organisers.
The programme, which focused on healthy lifestyle, personal development and worklessness, was funded by the Malvern Hills Partnership through a project called Big Pickersleigh.
The mums took classes, practical sessions and exercise classes specifically targeted to their needs at the Sunshine Children’s Centre.
Ruth Heywood of Big Pickersleigh said: “This programme has given local residents a fantastic opportunity to get involved in a community-led initiative. The mums chose the activities they wanted to participate in and this ensured they were motivated throughout. Three are now training to become community champions for the Big Pickersleigh project so that they can help and support others.”
The Big Pickersleigh project is now looking at further ways to support other groups and launch a programme for teenage dads after Easter. To find out more, contact 01684 862246.
