HEREFORDSHIRE Council has thanked a team of volunteer 4x4 response drivers who made more than 20 emergency journeys last night (Tuesday), primarily to get staff to and from the county hospital. They continue to make journeys today.
Emergency crews have reported difficulties in getting to blue light incidents due to the weather, and with untreated roads and pavements likely to remain very slippy throughout the day people are urged to take extra care to avoid the risk of slips, trips and falls.
The NHS reports that it is extremely busy due to the cold weather, and NHS Herefordshire is advising that anyone who does need medical treatment considers using parts of the service other than A&E or calling 999.
Alternatives include consulting pharmacists or GPs, calling NHS Direct on 0845 4647, logging on to nhs.uk or using a walk in centre or minor injuries unit.
