DAVID Barrie is standing as the UK Independence Party candidate in the Worcestershire County Council elections for Powick.
He said: “I have lived in the Malvern area since 1982, and work for a local health food company. In 2002 the EU passed a Directive that would outlaw the vitamin supplements previously allowed for over 40 years.
“Such was the public outcry, that it was shelved till 2010. The more I discovered about the EU, the more I realised the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels make over 75 per cent of our laws, and Westminster is powerless against this tide of meddling legislation. This determined me to stand for election, to do my utmost at a local level for the residents of Powick Division.”
DENNIS Nightingale-Smith is the Green Party candidate in the Worcestershire County Council elections for Powick.
He said: “Several thousand post offices have been closed down and in many cases are the hub of community life. They need to be restored.
“I will oppose private gardens being regarded as ‘brownfield’ sites. I will oppose the building of 1,600 or more new houses in Malvern by 2020. However, I support the provision of starter homes to enable young people to remain in their localities.
“Large houses should be converted into flats rather than being demolished to help preserve Britain’s heritage of fine houses.
“I will encourage and enable families to grow their own organic food including legumes for protein to reduce their reliance on meat.”
David Watkins is standing as a Conservative Party candidate in Worcestershire County Council elections for Powick.
He said: “I have lived and worked in South Worcestershire all my life. Despite world wide travel, the sight of the Malvern Hills and the Severn Plain can never be replaced.
“There are, however, problems to be faced. We need to solve the flooding problems. We need to improve our rural roads. We need to continue supporting all our schools, especially the small rural schools. We need to support local industry and farming, particularly in this rural division. We need to ensure that our hospitals provide the services people need, as near to their homes as possible.”
He has been a district councillor since 2000 and is currently the councillor for Morton.
TOM Wells is standing as the Liberal Democrat candidate in the Worcestershire County Council elections for Powick.
He said: “It has been a real privilege to serve as a county councillor for the past 12 years.Following the last General Election, I decided not to stand again for parliament and instead chose to commit myself to serving the villages of Powick Division. I firmly believe that my role as their representative should always come before party politics.I have done best to speak up for local villages and get things. I can't pretend to have always found an immediate solution to every issue, but I would like to believe that I have done my best to assist when ever I could.
