COLWALL Community Choir was in good voice as it sang its way to the Gold Cup at this year’s Cheltenham Festival.
The 28-strong choir began by winning the “Songs from the Shows” category, before going on to compete in the main mixed adult voices contest, in which they again won their class.
Finally they were awarded the Gold Cup, which is given for the most varied and engaging performance of the day.
The festival attracted competitors from across southern England and as far away as Ireland.
Musical director Wendy Blunn was thrilled to receive the awards on behalf of the choir.
She said: “All the effort we put in during the year was well worth it. We could not have achieved this prestigious award without a huge amount of effort from everyone in the team.”
The choir is always on the lookout for new members, and everyone is welcome.
Mrs Blunn added: “We don’t hold auditions. It is a really social occasion and I know people get a lot from being involved.”
Colwall Community Choir meets at 7.45pm on most Thursdays during term time at the Downs Malvern College Prep School, in Brockhill Road, Colwall. For further information call the school secretary on 01684 544104.
