FORTY captivated visitors enjoyed an evening of Travellers’ Tales took place at the Blue-Ginger gallery in Cradley.
Guests heard stories from members of the Jump4Timbuktu group about their travels to the African country earlier this year and enjoyed some delicious West African-style food.
Jump4Timbuktu aims to facilitate a fair “trade not aid” basis for local artisans to trade their way away from the threat of poverty and geographical isolation. The group markets and sells jewellery made by Tuareg craftsmen and all profits are gifted to Tuareg Relief for projects to benefit communities in and around Timbuktu city.
The evening was organised by Blue-Ginger’s owner Sue Lim, who joined Jump4Timbuktu volunteers on a trip to Mali and Timbuktu in February.
She said £700 was raised in donations and the sale of Tuareg jewellery. These proceeds have been earmarked for a pilot garden project to improve food security in a Tuareg village.
Due to overwhelming demand Mrs Lim will be repeating the event from 7-9.30pm on Tuesday (June 2).
Mohammed Alhare, one of the leaders of the artisan guilds in Timbuktu, will be the special guest and visitors will enjoy a West African dinner and complimentary drinks.
Tickets cost £15 from 01886 880240. Anyone interested in learning more should visit Jump4Timbuktu.org
