MALVERN birdwatchers are being asked to help chart the effects of global warming on birds and butterflies in the area.
The numbers of birds and butterflies present in an area are considered to be one of the main indicators of the changes that are happening to the environment.
For several years the Malvern Bird Group, comprising about 60 birdwatchers, has produced an annual booklet reporting on the comings and goings of different species of birds in the area.
The booklet has been extended for the first time this year to give similar information on the butterflies in the area.
Spokesman David Cunliffe said that the quality of the booklet each year depends on reports and information from local people, and is encouraging anyone who would like to contribute to get in touch by calling him on 01684 310752.
The latest booklet, covering 2008, has just been published and is available from the Malvern Hills Conservators’ office, the Tourist Information Centre, Beacon Books and a variety of other local outlets priced at about £3.
