MADRESFIELD Primary School was transformed into a tropical paradise this week as pupils created their own rainforest.

Some of the activities youngsters have enjoyed during rainforest week have included making tortillas on an outdoor fire pit and raft building.

They have also used garden canes, netting and fabric to create their own rainforest area and have created brightly coloured rainforest flowers out of plastic bottles.

One of the highlights of the week was a visit from ZooLab, who brought a host of exotic creatures - including snakes, treefrogs, millipedes and tarantulas - in to school to meet the children.

Parents have been invited to visit the rainforest during a special open day taking place tomorrow (Friday).

Headteacher Debbie Langston said the pupils have enjoyed a fantastic week.

“They have loved all the activities,” she said. “It has been a lot of fun and a valuable learning experience as well.

“They have worked brilliantly in teams and there has been a lot of maths involved in some of the activities and lots of opportunity for them to work on their writing skills.”
