HEART of England in Bloom judges will be visiting Malvern on Tuesday, July 7.

Now that the town’s judging day has been announced Malvern in Bloom chairman John Jordan plans to distribute leaflets to people who live along the judging route making them aware of the visit.

He hopes they will do what they can to ensure that the town is looking its best.

“In general we are just asking that people tidy up their gardens and cut back any hedges so that they do not impede pedestrians,” he explained. “We are not expecting a mini-Chelsea or anything like that, but it is nice to have tidy front gardens when the judges come to visit.”

Priory Park will once again feature in this year’s judging route, and a variety of work is being undertaken to ensure the area looks its eye-catching best.

Malvern Hills District Council has conducted a major pruning operation to open up views of the Swan Pool, and the Bandstand is also currently being restored. A wood sculpture will be created in a storm-damaged tree as part of a scheme called “One Big Project”.

Following a successful Munches and Bunches evening and a stand at the Spring Garden Show, there will be another opportunity to find out more about Malvern in Bloom’s work at a coffee morning in the Lyttelton Rooms on Saturday, June 27.

The event will include information about this year’s campaign as well as displays of previous years’ efforts.

Mr Jordan is also appealing to any gardeners who have spare bedding plants to get in touch, as he is aware of three areas - Malvern Youth Centre, Poolbrook Village Hall and the Elgar Avenue community garden - where they would be gratefully received.

Anyone with surplus plants can contact Mr Jordan on 01684 566760 or Lyndsey Davies on 01684 566667.
