OPEN auditions for Malvern Theatre Players next production Inherit the Wind by Jerome lawrence and Robert E Lee will be held at the Coach House Theatre in Grange Road, Malvern, next month.

The play will be directed by one of the players most experienced members Marie-Louise Doherty and will be performed in the Forum at Malvern Theatres from September 2-5.

The play Inherit The Wind is an appropriate choice for Darwin’s bicentenery. It is set in Tennessee and based on the infamous ‘Monkey Trail’ of 1925 in which a young biology teacher is arrested for teaching Darwin’s “subversive” theory of evolution. The stage is set for a courtroom battle, a clash of giants in what became one of the most celebrated and defining cases of 20th century American history. The battle is between science and religion, civil liberties and bible-thumping findamentalism, freedom of thought and narrow-minded censorship. A small backwater farming community becomes the centre of a media circus, the likes of which had never been seen before.

There are 30 named parts, ranging from major roles to non-speaking extras, which gives an opportunity for actors with a wide range of ages and ability to take part in the production. The auditions take palce on Tuesday, June 2, and Thursday, June 4, at 7.30pm. More details are available from MTP on 01684 569011.
