MORE than 500 walkers braved the wet weather to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice at the charity’s annual Malvern Hills Walk.
Organisers hope this year’s event will raise about £30,000 towards the hospice’s work for patients and families with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
St Richard’s Hospice Community Fundraiser Joanna Street, said: “Well done to everyone who took part. Once again the weather wasn't the best but that didn't seem to dampen the spirits of the walkers. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has raised money for the hospice.
“The walk is a firm favourite in our fundraising calendar because the three different routes cater for all ages and abilities.
“We are also grateful to all the volunteers, the Malvern Sea Cadets and the St John Ambulance who give their time to make sure everything runs smoothly.”
Among the keen walkers this year were a family from Malvern including Molly Woodward, aged six, who is thought to be the youngest ever to have completed the 11 mile walk. Joining her was Ben Meredith, aged eight, and Alice Woodward, aged nearly two who was pushed along the route in an all-terrain buggy.
Family member Julie Whittaker said: “We all enjoyed ourselves, and I am full of admiration for the two children who managed to walk the whole distance - what an achievement. Gary was fantastic too, pushing the buggy with Alice in it all the way. We hope to have raised about £550 between us.”
